The NHL and the NHLPA funded the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative in 1998, and the league devotes a full month to its ongoing battle against this disease that has affected and continues to affect us all.
As they do every season, the Capitals are holding their own Hockey Fights Cancer night, and this season’s HFC event at Capital One Arena is being held on Thursday when the Caps host the New York Islanders.
It’s worth noting that this initiative is not called “NHL fights cancer.” It’s Hockey Fights Cancer. The NHL is just one significant portal of hockey, but the game is global and is much larger than the league itself.
