COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES & TREATMENTS

HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal medicines are plant-based medicines made from differing combinations of plant parts e.g. leaves, flowers or roots. Each part can have different medicinal uses and the many types of chemical constituents require different extraction methods. Both fresh and dried plant matter are used, depending on the herb.

REIKI

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the person's health.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that stimulates the nervous system to release natural painkillers and immune system cells, which then travel to weakened areas of the body and relieve symptoms.  Acupuncture has been shown to help relieve fatigue, hot flashes, nausea, vomiting, and pain.

CHIROPRACTIC THERAPY

Chiropractic therapy s a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system.  Chiropractors practice primarily using their hands, providing treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system, and joints.  Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, depending on the specific needs of the individual patient.  In women with breast cancer, chiropractic treatment may help relieve headaches, back, and joint pain associated with this condition.  Chiropractors work alongside your health care providers to help maximize your overall health and well-being.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage is a hands-on method of manipulating the soft tissues of the body and can include a variety of types of pressure and touch. Massage can be beneficial in the treatment of the shoulder, arm, chest, rib cage, neck, and even the breast can be treated directly using a variety of techniques.  Shoulder and neck mobility, muscle function, tissue mobility and health, lymphatic drainage, and circulation can all be addressed with the use of massage.
